Tania Barrenetxea is a visual artist and photographer trained in contemporary photography at the Centre for Contemporary Photography of Bilbao (CFC). Her work constitutes an ongoing investigation into identity, trauma and the liminal space where the conscious and the unconscious converge. Through self-referential practice, she approaches vulnerability as a space of connection. Her practice moves across different photographic genres and incorporates other media, including poetry.
Between 2022 and 2025, she received Creation Grants from Getxo and the Basque Government, and was recognised in awards and competitions including BAFFEST, Siena Creative Photo Awards and reFocus Awards, where she was named International Discovery of the Year. In 2026, her photobook Apegos Feroces was shortlisted for Best Photobook of the Year at PHotoESPAÑA, Les Rencontres d'Arles and Encontros da Imagem.
Tania Barrenetxea es una artista visual formada en el Centro de Fotografía Contemporánea de Bilbao (CFC). Su obra constituye una investigación continua en torno a la identidad, el trauma y el espacio liminal donde lo consciente y lo inconsciente convergen. Desde la autorreferencialidad, aborda la vulnerabilidad como un espacio de conexión. Su práctica transita por distintos géneros fotográficos e incorpora otros medios, como la poesía.
Entre 2022 y 2025, ha recibido las Ayudas a la Creación de Getxo y del Gobierno Vasco, y ha sido reconocida en premios y certámenes como BAFFEST, Siena Creative Photo Awards o reFocus Awards, donde fue nombrada International Discovery of the Year. En 2026, su fotolibro Apegos Feroces ha sido finalista a mejor fotolibro del año en PHotoESPAÑA, Les Rencontres d'Arles y Encontros da Imagem.
